Responsibilities:
Police Officer:
One opening and to establish an eligibility list. Police Officers are charged with the responsibility of fulfilling the Police mission at the primary level of execution. Patrols the community to provide services to the public, enforce laws and ordinances, preserve the peace, protecting life and property. Additional duties may include training reserve or civilian personnel, making community or school presentations, may work rotating shifts, may do other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications:
United States citizen; Must be 21 years of age and physically capable of performing the duties of Police Officer. Applicant must successfully complete pre-employment screening examinations, including written and oral tests, background check, physical and psychological examination as required.
Applicant must meet all DPSST standard minimum qualifications for police officer. If applicant is not certified at time of hire, must receive basic certification from DPSST within one year of appointment as police officer. Applicants must have no convictions involving a felony. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Oregon driver’s license is required. Good moral character, mental and physical condition with a demonstrated ability to perform essential functions such as demonstrated by the DPSST/ORPAT. Preference may be given certified candidates. Random drug testing may be conducted in the probationary period which is 12 months from date of hire.
General Conditions:
The Police Department seeks motivated, career oriented employees to serve a mixed use community of permanent residents, a fluctuating transient or tourist population and seasonal occupancy of second or vacation homes. The City of Rockaway Beach, Oregon, is an energetic and growing community located on about 5 miles of beautiful Pacific Ocean beach front with an incorporated area of approximately 3 square miles. Excellent communication skills and problem solving skills, a desire to work closely with the community and ability to work independently are a plus. Residency preferred but not required; Shift work and seniority as outlined in the labor agreement; may be required to work holidays. Since police work is in a 24-hour capacity, may be required to respond to emergency call when off duty or may be required to act in official capacity while off duty.
