Officer: $19.46/hr. to $27.24/hr; Corporal: $21.48/hr. to $30.07/hr.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Police Officer/Corporal (Lateral) – Announcement 08-75 Police Officer salary range is $40,477 to $56,668 annually Police Corporal salary range is $44,679 to $62,551 annually
Minimum Requirements for All Applicants
- HS Diploma or GED
- At least 21 years of age
- US Citizen
- Successfully complete physical and psychological exams
- Pass initial drug and alcohol screening and subsequent random drug and alcohol screening
- NM drivers license within 30 days of employment and ability to maintain thereafter
- No convictions for felonies, domestic violence or other crimes of moral turpitude
- No convictions for DUI within the last 3 years
- Submit to background investigation and FBI fingerprint check
- NM Law Enforcement Certification within one year of employment
- Must live within 40 statute miles of the Los Alamos County Municipal Building within six months
Additional Corporal Requirements
- Two years law enforcement experience demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility
- NM Law Enforcement Certification or ability obtain certification by waiver within one year of employment
Los Alamos Police Department
- Academy paid at 40 hours plus some overtime
- Uniforms provided by Department
- Take home cars (after probation period) for those residing in Los Alamos County
- Physical agility requirements waived for laterals that are certifiable in NM
- Court time paid at a minimum of 2 hours OT
- Four 12-hour shifts followed by four days off
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- be a U.S. citizen
- possess a valid driver's license
- be at least 21 years of age
- possess a high school diploma or GED
