JOB DESCRIPTION

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- be a U.S. citizen
- possess a valid driver's license
- be 21 - 44 years of age
- At least 60 college hours (with some exemptions)
- Vision: 20/70, correctable to 20/20

OTHER INFORMATION
Requirements include:
  • 21-44 years old
  • Have an Associates Degree or equivalent (60 college hours) from a TCLEOSE approved/accredited school with at least a 2.0 GPA with the following exceptions:
    1. Applicants who have completed 3 or more years of active military service and have exited within 18 months prior to submitting their application must have a high school diploma or G.E.D.
    2. Applicants who have completed 3 or more years of active military service and have exited more than 18 months but less than 36 months prior to submitting their application must have completed 30 or more college hours with at least a 2.0 GPA.
    3. Applicants who have been employed as a full-time certified peace officer for 3 or more years during the period immediately preceding the submission of their application must have a high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • If time was served in the military, must have an honorable discharge
  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must not have any criminal conviction above the grade of a Class B misdemeanor or any Class B misdemeanor within the past 10 years

Training Process:
The Irving Police Department provides all the necessary training for it's employees and all the training is on a paid basis. Police recruits will attend the Basic Training Course at a regional police academy within the Dallas/Fort Worth area. This training lasts approximately 5 months. Afterwards, the recruit will complete an 8 week advanced training program at the Irving Police Training Academy and then complete a Field Training Program.
