JOB DESCRIPTION
The Craig Police Department is accepting applications for future openings for the position of Police Officer. Applications will be kept on file for one year. Applicants must have a current Alaska Police Standards Council Certificate, approved academy, or equivalent out of state certification or training enabling Alaska Certification with the 80 hour Alaska Police Standards Transition Academy. Those who have attended academies but are not currently certified are encouraged to apply. This is an open recruitment.

WAGES: $41,520 - $50,864 with adjustments for police experience

All Probationary Officers starting wages will be at 90% for the first six months. Police Officer starting grade is DOE. Officers work five, eight hour shifts per week. Officer may be required to be available for On Call scheduling which is paid at a rate of $6.00 per hour. After completing one year with the department, Officers will receive an annual uniform allowance of $500.00

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be a citizen of the United States or a resident alien who has demonstrated the intent to become a citizen of the United States.
Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of initial testing.
Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
Must have a valid operator's license.
Must be physically sound and free from physical defects which would adversely affect performance as a police officer.(To be determined during a medical examination.)

DISQUALIFIERS:

The following will disqualify you from being hired as a Craig Police Officer:
Felony conviction
Misdemeanor conviction for:
Domestic violence (DV)
Crime of moral turpitude
Crime of dishonesty
Crime that resulted in serious physical injury to another Conviction of any two misdemeanors within ten years of application.
Conviction for two or more DWI offenses.
Driving privileges suspended, revoked or cancelled within the last three years Illegal manufacture, transport or sale of a controlled substance.
Illegal use of any controlled substance other than marijuana within ten years of date of hire unless under the age of 21 at the time of the act.
Use of marijuana within five years.

Applicants must have a current Alaska Police Standards Council Certificate, approved academy, or equivalent out of state certification or training enabling Alaska Certification with the 80 hour Alaska Police Standards Transition Academy.

Applicants must complete the Alaska Police Standard Council Form F-3 and Craig Police Department Application. Once the application has been accepted, applicants will be contacted and asked to proceed to the next level.

An entry level written test will be given and scored.
An initial background investigation will be done.

Upon successfully passing the initial background investigation:
Oral board interview.
If necessary, a physical agility test will be performed.
A polygraph will be done for those who have successfully passed to this point.
Psychological testing will be given.
A complete physical will be done only on Alaska Police Standard Council form F-2.
Chief's interview.
Conditional offer of employment will be given.
Drug screening performed (paid by the City of Craig)
