JOB DESCRIPTION
Police personnel, using a community-policing approach, create and maintain a community environment which discourages and prevents crime by:
  • Responding to requests for service
  • Working with citizens to enforce state and local laws
  • Investigating crimes and traffic crashes
  • Patrolling assigned areas
  • Apprehending and arresting of offenders; testifying in court
  • Meeting with concerned citizens and community groups
  • Leading and directing Cadets and other volunteers
  • Working a 40-hour week, 10 hour days, with 3 fixed days off (patrol officers only)
  • Preparing hand-written or computer generated reports
  • Planning and coordinating special events

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- be a U.S. citizen
- possess a valid driver's license
- be at least 21 years of age
- 90 qtr or 60 Sem hrs accredited college

Selected candidates will be required to take the National Criminal Justice Officer Selection Inventory (NCJOSI) exam; and may be selected to continue with oral board interviews, Oregon Physical Abilities Testing, psychological and medical testing. Testing and interviews will be conducted periodically. Applicants will be notified in advance of testing dates and times.

Applicants who have participated in a prior Corvallis Police Officer recruitment process may re-apply after one year.

OTHER INFORMATION
Corvallis Police Department is a full-service law enforcement organization with 85 sworn and civilian staff, providing police services and records management for the City, and centralized Enhanced 9-1-1 dispatching services for the City and Benton County. The department was nationally accredited in 1995, through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, making Corvallis one of the 1% of police agencies in the United States to reach this level of outstanding professionalism.

After successfully completing an 18 month probation, officers may earn up to 6% additional pay on their base salary for DPSST Intermediate and Advanced Certifications, 5% bilingual pay, 5% assignment pay, and 5% Police Training Officer (PTO) pay. City paid employee assistance program, wellness program, major medical, vision and dental insurance plans, life and disability insurance are provided in an excellent benefit package.

In addition to general law enforcement services, Corvallis Police Department provides unique community services, including, but not limited to, bicycle and directed patrols, neighborhood traffic management (motorcycles), and canine programs. Numerous career development opportunities are available, including participation on a Major Crimes Team, Detectives, Street Crimes Unit, Police Training Officer (PTO), Law Enforcement Accreditation, Trainer, Deputy Medical Examiner and DUII/Traffic Education and Enforcement.
